Do you find yourself catching everything that’s going around?
From colds and flus to gastro bugs, if you work in an office environment you know easily nasty infections can pass from one coworker to another.
So how do you protect yourself from this vicious cycle and maintain your health and wellness despite others being sick around you?
The more susceptible you are to recurrent infections, the bigger the impact it has on your everyday life. You feel as though you’re always fighting something off and it’s miserable. And even when you do start to get well again, you are left feeling tired and weak for weeks afterwards.
The answer lies in fortifying yourself with curative (immune boosting nutrients/herbs and lifestyle recommendations) measures first and then once you are well again, building up your resistance through preventative measures.
Rest is imperative if you are coming down with something. Making sure you drink plenty of water is also essential. You won’t feel like eating much as your immune system takes precedence over your digestive system and this causes your appetite to drop. However, it is still important to eat light meals such as clear soups (chicken noodle, etc.) to bolster your immunity and keep a little energy up.
It’s important to realize that your body is working hard on killing the infection and then getting rid of debris in any way it can. This can result in running a fever as some bugs dislike the heat, to sneezing, coughing up phlegm, sweating and nasal discharge. Suppressing the body’s natural defences with over the counter medications to dry up mucous or cough syrups which stop the cough reflex is not recommended. Lowering a fever is only ever recommended if the temperature is way too high. Minimizing the side-effects of the body’s innate immune response actually prolongs an infection because your body has to work twice as hard to get rid of the dead infectious phlegm and mucous.
So as tempting as it is to solder on and suppress those unwanted symptoms, think twice before you do.
Natural treatment for recurrent infections encourages you to become aware of any underlying issues that continually predispose you to getting sick.
This can be chronic ongoing stress, lack of sleep, food choices and nutritional deficiencies. The bulk of your immune system is in the gut so if there are problems with your digestion this can be a contributor to low immunity also. The use of anti-biotics and various other medications can also spell trouble for your immunity.
The naturopathic/nutritional approach to recurrent infections teaches you to know what’s lowering your immunity. You will learn what to look out for, what changes to make, what to eat and what supplements to take to keep yourself feeling A1.
You’ll regain control of your life again will no longer be at the mercy of catching whatever is going around.
