At Feeling Healthy we’re all about keeping fit and active, not only that, we believe that our bodies are an amazing vessel built to support itself. So in terms of improving circulation we understand that there are ways in which it can be improved by using just the body itself.
That should make it easier for us to do right?
Well we all know that regular exercise in general is super important for maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system but there are some specific exercises that are better for targeting circulation. We know that cardio is great for cardiovascular support but we know that cardio isn’t the easiest exercise for all of us to do, so what kinds of exercise can you include in your daily routine to get your blood moving? Weight bearing or resistance exercise is the answer. This doesn’t mean just lifting weights, it also includes walking, yoga, pilates and general stretching. Various yoga poses such as downward dog, legs up the wall pose, triangle pose and more can aid in improving circulation. Check out a yoga class if you’re keen, there are so many benefits other than just circulation improvement!
But what can you do in the comfort of your own home?
Well in a study by Hotta et al (2013) a stretching regime was studied to see whether it would improve circulation in patients who had suffered a heart attack in the past. Five different stretches were used and patients were asked to do the stretch for 30 seconds with a 30 second break twice. This research showed that the stretching improved circulation! So without further ado here are the stretches you can include in your daily routine to help stimulate blood flow:
Try each stretch for 30 seconds, rest for 30 then repeat once more for best results.
Not only will your circulation improve but your flexibility and mobility will too! What a bonus!
